Steinway Lyngdorf Anounces New Model LS Concert
September, 2012 - Steinway Lyngdorf launches the Model LS Concert
Steinway Lyngdorf launches the new Model LS Concert at CEDIA Expo 2012. The new speaker combines technologies from two of Steinway Lyngdorf's most popular speakers: the dipole technology from the flagship Model D and the line source technology from the Model LS. Created as an open-baffle dipole line source, the Model LS Concert speaker provides the ultimate in audio experiences.
Without conventional cabinets, the Model LS Concert open-baffle speaker interacts with the room much as a musical instrument would, resulting in extremely open and life-like musicality. At the same time the line source construction allows sound to propagate over long distances. In practice, it is almost impossible to detect any change in volume level and audio quality from the front to the rear of the room.
"The Model LS Concert started out as a sketch in my notebook and was something I dreamt about creating for several years. The idea of combining a dipole speaker with the line source principle would allow me to create not only a truly unique and immensely powerful speaker, but something that aesthetically fills the room with its physical presence." stated Steinway Lyngdorf founder, Peter Lyngdorf.
"I am happy to say that even before the official launch, we have received extremely positive responses from clients and have already installed the first systems, underlining our belief that sound delivered in its purest form is always in demand."
The Model LS Concert is designed so it can be part of a powerful stereo system or a multi-channel system by combining the Model LS Concert speakers with Steinway Lyngdorf's range of sound processors, amplifiers and other speaker collections. As always, every Steinway Lyngdorf system benefits from the combination of proprietary RoomPerfect™ technology and fully digital amplification allowing pure sound to be realized perfectly in acoustically imperfect real-world environments.
The Model LS Concert speaker starts at $86,000 with full stereo set-up beginning at $228,000 which includes an SP-1 Processor, Model A1 Amplifiers, and Model LS Boundary Woofers. The Model LS Concert will be available through Steinway Lyngdorf's network of selected partners worldwide beginning September 10, 2012. Demonstrations are available at CEDIA Expo 2012 in the Denver Room at the Marriott Hotel.
Components
The open-baffle design allows one to see the components that make the Model LS Concert so remarkable: Fifteen 5¼ mid-range drivers consisting of extremely lightweight and stiff aluminum, made more rigid through a special deep anodizing treatment and features a powerful neodymium magnet system. The end result is a midrange driver with a extremely fast time response.
The Model LS Concert also features eight AMT (Air Motion Technology) tweeters. The specially-designed tweeter features an ultra-thin, folded Kapton diaphragm with a large surface area. It combines the advantages of a dome tweeter with those of a ribbon tweeter, resulting in higher power handling and very accurate detail reproduction.
Dali Epicon 8 3 1/2 Way Floor Standing Speaker
PureHT: Seeing this speaker earlier this year at the IS Europe convention, I have to say, IT LOOKED STUNNING! Few speaker in aesthetics impressed me like this one, be sure to demo it.
The Epicon 8
The absolute pinnacle of the EPICON series, the EPICON 8 delivers dramatically rich and detailed sound that will blow your mind and captivate your senses. The floor standing loudspeaker is the result of a passionate, tireless quest to reach perfection.
Prepare yourself for musical indulgence like never before – and for a beautifully statuesque design your guests will envy.
Drivers
In the EPICON 8, two 8” woofers are complemented by a 6 ½“ mid-range driver to peel away the layers of a recording and delicately separate vocals and instruments. The groundbreaking Linear Drive Magnet System of the woofers is complemented by our hybrid ribbon/soft dome tweeter module. This all translates into the largest, most room-filling sound of the EPICON family. Effectively this is a ‘3 + ½-way’ construction.
Multi-layered cabinets
Each side of the floor standing EPICON 8 is constructed from 6 individual layers of MDF, all glued together. In the EPICON 8 these are anchored to a 63 mm multi-layer MDF backbone of the cabinet, which is 10 mm thicker than the backbone of the EPICON 2 and EPICON 6 to maintain control. CNC milling process is applied for making the recess and holes for the bass ports and terminals in the backbone.
With a thickness of 33 mm the duallayer front baffle ensures that energy from the drivers is radiated as acoustic energy, and not as vibrations in the cabinet. The curved shape of the front baffle is also a contributing factor in ensuring a stable acoustic platform.
Internally the cabinet for the EPICON 8 is divided in two identical sized chambers for the woofers and one extra chamber for the midrange. The woofer chambers are allowing tuning of the cabinet to be done identically yet completely independently for each of the two woofers. The midrange chamber allows the driver to reproduce the critical frequencies related to e.g. human voices without any interference from the rest of the system.
Thus you will find two bass ports on the back of the cabinet located as nearby the woofers as possible. Both ports are convex tapered in both ends to minimize port turbulence. At the very bottom of the cabinet, however, you will see that the hardwired crossover is mounted in its own enclosure as well - free from the dynamic variation of cabinet pressure inside the bass reflex enclosures.
These partitions as well as the internal bracing have been very carefully positioned within the floor standing EPICON 8. Following DALI’s philosophy of optimizing the timing in all aspects, a free airflow is crucial to the sound experience.
"Its sound is equally impressive, at once bold and intimate, its broad soundstage peppered with musical detail, filling the largest of rooms with ease."

Monitor Audio PL200 3-Way Floor Standing Speaker
The latest addition to Monitor Audio's flagship Platinum range is a compact version of the universally acclaimed PL300 loudspeaker, designed for an even broader range of environments. In a skilful re-sizing of the PL300 (the PL200 occupies approximately 1/3 the volume of the PL300), Monitor Audio's engineers have taken great care to preserve all the sonic virtues and design excellence of the larger speaker. By utilising a re-scaled 6.5" version of the Platinum 8" bass driver and by re-configuring the Platinum mid-range Tapered Line Enclosure (TLE) to align co-axially with the PL200's HiVe®II bass reflex port, they have endowed the smaller PL200 with the spiritual essence of its universally admired range-mate.
Standing at just under a metre in height (99.8cm x 25.5cm W x 28.5cm D), the compact three-way PL200 speaker features dual 6.5" RDT bass drivers, a single 4" RDT mid-range driver and Monitor Audio's proprietary and superlative Platinum C-CAM® ribbon transducer.
As with other Platinum speakers, the PL200's innovatively shaped and braced cabinet is finished in a choice of exotic lacquered Santos Rosewood and Ebony natural wood veneers, and in a rich piano black lacquer. The front baffle is upholstered in high quality leather.
- Single Ported HiVe® II technology
- Sealed Mid-range TLE®
- 2 x 6.5” long-throw RDT® bass drivers

Stereophile had this to say: Read full article here
The ideal loudspeaker would have no sound of its own: the sound that it made would simply reflect the input signal, communicating all of the detail and nuances present in the source. If such a speaker exists, I haven't heard it—but the Monitor Audio Platinum PL200 comes closer to this ideal than most.Techradar gives full 5 star: Read full report here (stunning pictures)
However, provided some care is taken to ensure that the bottom end works well in the intended listening room, the Platinum 200 is something of a star. Though undoubtedly costly, this is at least partly due to the almost obsessional application of top quality ingredients and partly justified by the outstanding voicing, sweetness and freedom from boxiness throughout the midrange and the treble.

What Hi-Fi had the following to say: Read full report hereBut with the right music, performed properly, the PL300 can mount a musical picture of devastating authority and weight, without any noticeable overhang or excess. However, it's in two other areas that this speaker is most impressive. First, there's the almost complete absence of coloration, and the model's corresponding transparency. The only speakers that come close in this area are top-end electrostatics.
Audio Video Magazine (Russia) had the following to say in English: Review is downloadable hereOther pleasing qualities include decent timing and strong dynamics, though we have to say it's the way they handle subtleties, and the seamless integration between the drivers that impress us the most. The PL300s are far and away the best speakers we've heard from Monitor Audio – and we can't think of similarly priced rivals we prefer.
"...however, the PL300 has a hugely optimistic middle range and unbelievable treble, because of the successful design of the tweeters. In this case, there is none of the expensive brightness of modern recordings or the “sand” of old recordings...choose a suitable environment and do some work on the room, and you will then have what some companies’ advertisements call “the ultimate purchase!”

Audio Solution, Rhapsody 200 Floor Standing Speaker
Rhapsody line speakers is the first of AudioSolutions products. This speaker line embraces our motto at the most - "the Art and Science in Speakers Engineering". During creation of this line, we put together all our electronics, design, enclosure production knowledge and experience. Most importantly we‘ve put our hearts, so that everyone could not only just hear a great sound, but also feel the craftsman's touch in every one of the speakers.
Rhapsody 200 is the biggest, heaviest and most impressive model of AudioSolutions speaker range. These speakers are equipped with two 9" bass speakers which is doing their job very well. High thermal capacity voice coils gives possibility to use high powered amplifiers driven on higher peak power than speaker are rated. Two true mid-range speaker drivers takes range from 500Hz to 6500Hz. Crossover doesn't interact the most sensitive range for human ear, this is very important for High-end quality sound reproduction.
Furthermore, high frequency driver works a lot "easier" in more "comfortable" range, where distortion is at minimum. Whole speaker system have very smooth SPL curve and tonal balance is neutral. Cabinet side walls consist of four layers different material, thickness and different resonance properties. Such sandwich minimizes unwanted cabinet resonances to the minimum. Nine internal bracing does their job too. Top, bottom and rear walls are 60mm thick. Whole cabinet is acoustically "dead".
As in all Rhapsody models, crossover is submerged in quartz sand and compound mix to eliminate vibrations caused by speaker drivers. The high-flow bass reflex port is in the back side of the cabinet, but projected to be able work near wall. We recommend to have at least 30m^2 room to use these speakers, but we also tested them in 18m^2 and they sounded perfectly. We didn't noticed any problems with performance. All in all this model is our flagman for today and we are proud that these speakers can satisfy the most fastidious listeners.
Three way, bass reflex cabinet. Impedance-linear crossover with pin-to-pin construction. Crossover submerged in compound-quartz sand mix to minimize interaction between crossover and internal acoustical waves or mechanical vibrations. All cabinet walls are made of two layer MDF and two layers plywood. Rear, top and bottom walls are 60mm thick, side walls - 32mm. Cabinet have 4 degree angle to focus mid and high band in one point to improve sound imaging. The ideal listening point is 226cm from each speaker. This is the point where mid and high frequency driver axis crosses over. The high frequency driver is in 109cm height. This is average ear height when sitting on standard couch or chair.

Steve Guttenberg on CNET had this to say: Click here for full article
The RF-7 II is extremely efficient, so it can play seriously loud with a 50-watt receiver, but it can also handle monster amps that deliver as much as 1,000 watts! If you've only experienced small speakers with 6-inch or smaller woofers, you'll be in for a shock when you hear what the RF-7 II can unleash without restricting dynamics.Retrovo: Read more here
